Cities That Have Longest, Shortest Fasting Times in Ramadan

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A report on Monday indicated the cities in the world where Muslims fast the most amount of hours and those where they fast the least amount of hours.

Holy month of Ramadan

 

The holy month of Ramadan, the month of fasting, is expected to begin on Thursday, March 23, and end on Thursday, April 20.  

According to the report by Al Jazeera, in Muslim countries of the region, the average length of the day for fasting is about 15 hours.

In the Arab world, the Comoros Islands will have the lowest number of hours to fast. Muslims there will fast for about 12 hours and 37 minutes.

This is while the hours of the day in Algeria and Tunisia will reach 15 hours and 45 minutes.

Buenos Aires in Argentina and Johannesburg in South African have the shortest fasting time in the world; between 1 and 12 hours.

As for the longest fasting time, cities in Europe hold the record with those in Warsaw in Poland and Moscow in Russia fasting more than 18 hours.

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. It is a period of prayer, fasting, charity giving and self–accountability for Muslims around the world.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast (abstain from foods and drinks) from sunrise to sunset.

They also devote a considerable amount of time during this month to reading and contemplating the Quran.
